Through the process of strategic planning, Normal Fire Department determined that the current facilities and the location of these facilities did not adequately meet the requirements for emergency response services for the Town of Normal. With this process, it became evident that a new centralized headquarters facility was needed to accommodate the growing administrative staff in a single location.
The department also decided that this station needed to be closer in proximity to Illinois State University, resulting in a new headquarters fire station located near ISU and uptown Normal. This station also serves as the location of their training facility for the entire fire department.
